“Healthy” foods and drinks you should avoid

Following a healthy diet with all information online can be quite difficult. Are carbs bad for you? Do you need supplements? Can some foods reduce cancer risk? Misleading labels on the food make things more confusing.

However, we did some research, and we know that the following foods present as healthy foods, but they are not as nutritious as they seem. 

Diet soda

Oh, we all crave sodas, especially in summer. But, you should avoid them. While diet soda has zero calories, they are still not healthy at all. Yes, it is a better option than fructose- or sugar-sweetened sodas, but the manufacturers get the sweet taste in scary ways. They use other artificial sweeteners, which are not healthy at all. But if you crave sodas a lot, don’t panic – there is a solution for you. You should try stevia-sweetened sodas instead. Stevia is a natural product and has zero calories. 

Bottled tea drinks 

If you get sick, you drink tea. So, tea is healthy, right? Bottled tea has added sugar, and while it may be healthier than sodas, some bottled teas have as much sugar as those fizzy drinks. You should always choose teas with no added sugar. Yes, you can find just pure tea! And the best one out there is the green tea – it gives an extra boost of antioxidants. 

Instant oatmeal 

Oatmeal is healthy – it has soluble, healthy fiber that is good for our hearts. But the instant oatmeal packets are packed with sugar, so you should try and avoid them. We know that instant oatmeal is the easiest thing you can ‘cook’, but we offer you another easy solution as well. Just take half a cup of rolled oat and half a cup of milk (plant or dairy). Mix them in a jar and leave them in the fridge overnight. The next morning, there will be creamy oatmeal waiting for you in the fridge. So, no cooking at all! You can just add nuts, coconut, fruit, cocoa, or whatever you want, and eat! 

Granola 

We love granola, so this is bad news for us too! Granola is amazing as a cereal, as a snack, or just sprinkled on yogurt. Unfortunately, not all granolas are healthy foods. If you want to eat healthily, you should check the ingredients and see if there is any palm oil, added sugars, or hydrogenated oils. These are all inflammatory ingredients you should avoid. And yes, “natural” ingredients like maple syrup and honey are sources of sugar.

Rice cakes are indispensable for many dieters. But they have almost no fiber and don’t have a lot to offer. But if you still like to eat them, you should take them with healthy fats like avocado or peanut butter or protein. 

Multigrain bread 

We know that multigrain sounds healthy, but some of the loaves of bread are made with enriched flour. This refined flour is stripped of its nutrients to make white bread and it has been fortified with vitamins. This bread doesn’t get its fiber back, so we recommend going with nutritious whole-grain or whole-wheat bread.

Since you will not be able to get rid of negative thoughts in the short term, you should at least schedule them. Schedule a period of the day when you will think about everything that has happened and answer some of the questions that bother you about the breakup.
